Irony - 2010/01/28 08:32 I don't want to be a debbie downer here but I found it Ironic that a site dedicated to websites would have such an obvious flaw.
When you register, there is no field for password, so when you try to login it is impossible. You have to reset your password and get one assigned. I just wanted to point that out so it can be fixed.
In the moment, for the moment,

Re:Irony - 2010/04/18 03:36 It is a policy here that only system generated passwords are permitted. If you don't like the one that is provided, you can always ask for another one. They are designed so as to have some hope of memorability, although you may (like me) have too many to remember them all.

Personally, I am irritated by sites that impose requirements on the password, such as demanding that it include both letters and numbers, or insisting that it must have a special character in it. Once a requirement of that kind is imposed, then I invariably use a computer generated password and store it in a register of sites and their passwords.

What is even more annoying is sites that don't tell you about rules imposed on passwords until after you've submitted a password - then it is rejected because it doesn't follow the rules that you haven't been told about!

So if site owners want to enhance security and follow the widely agreed guidance that people should not use the same password everywhere, then I am perfectly happy with a site generated password. It makes the registration process extremely simple.
